Steph Young

I started my teaching career in secondary science, maths and EAL (English as an additional language). My specialist subject is Biology, but I have taught all 3 sciences throughout the age range, from nursery to GCSE. I spent several years teaching in primary age and more recently I have returned to secondary science as my core subject. This variety in my teaching career gives me an insight into the progression of students from early readers up to A* GCSE, and I find it useful to be able to take the science or maths level up or down a level to suit the needs of the student. I have taught many students for whom English is not their family language, and I can pare down my vocabulary to support their learning in the classroom, and also support the gaining of new vocabulary in specialist subjects.
